The Newcastle Knights have re-signed promising middle forward Mat Croker on a one-year deal, just days after Daniel Saifiti’s departure was confirmed.

Croker, 25, was initially believed to be on the out at the Knights as part of the club’s sweeping roster rebuild but has since been handed a contract with the club for next season.

A member of the club since his junior days, Croker is a talented middle forward with subtle ball-playing skills, who club director of football Peter Parr described as “an integral part of the team.”

DOLPHINS SECURE ORIGIN PROP

The Dolphins have finally got their man, with the club announcing on Tuesday that the Origin prop and former Knight Daniel Saifiti has inked a three-year deal.

Saifiti was released from the final two years of his rich Knights deal with the Dolphins swooping in to add some much-needed firepower to their pack following the retirement of premiership-winning forward Jesse Bromwich.

He will join a forward pack that already contains the likes of Tom Gilbert, Tom Flegler, Mark Nicholls, Felise Kafusi, and Kenny Bromwhich, although Flegler is under an injury cloud for next season.

Ex-Newcastle assistant and incoming Dolphins head coach Kristian Woolf, was a strong influence as to why Saifiti chose to head to the NRL’s newest team.

Dolphins CEO Terry Reader says he’s thrilled to have a player of Saifiti’s ilk join the club.

“We are very eager to see what Daniel Saifiti is going to bring to our club,” said Reader via a club-issued statement.

“It is probably impossible to replace someone who has had the amazing career of Jesse Bromwich, but we know we have done extremely well in bringing in Daniel to add to our depth.

“He is a representative player, he is tough, aggressive and a hard worker – all the things the Dolphins pride themselves on being.

“We can’t wait to see him in our colours next year and are excited about what he will add to our already formidable forward pack.”

GUN UTILITY RE-UPS WITH TITANS

The versatile Chris Randall has been rewarded with a well-earned three-year extension from the Titans.

Chris Randall played in every single game this season for the Gold Coast where he has been given the nickname ‘Mr Fix It’, due to his ability to fill in and play multiple positions from hooker to back-row and even in the halves.

He proved all season long that no matter what jersey number was on his back, Randall was going to do a job for his team.

Even as an undersized forward, Randall punched well above his weight throughout the season, averaging 32 tackles per game which was the second-highest figure for the Titans in 2024.

Randall expressed his excitement about staying on the Gold Coast for another three years. “I’ve really enjoyed my time here on the Gold Coast and I’m thrilled to be remaining a Titan until the end of 2027,” he said via a Titans press release.

“I took a chance moving up here at the end of 2022 and it’s really paid off. It’s a great place to raise my young family and I have full belief that we can bring success to the Coast in the next few years.

“I’ve really enjoyed playing under Des and the boys, and I’m really excited for what’s to come with what we’re building here at the Titans.”

SOUTHS SIGN BOOM CENTRE TO NEW DEAL

The Rabbitohs have boosted their outside back stocks with centre Isaiah Tass inking a long-term contract extension with South Sydney.

“The South Sydney Rabbitohs have extended the contract of outside back Isaiah Tass until the end of the 2027 season today,” the club said in a statement released on Monday.

Tass, 25, has played 47 NRL games since making his NRL debut for the Rabbitohs against the Bulldogs in round six of the 2022 season, scoring 13 tries so far in his career.

Tass also represented the Indigenous All Stars in 2023.

Rabbitohs Head of Football, Mark Ellison, says he is pleased to have extended the contract of Tass at South Sydney.

“‘Tassy’ has shown he has what it takes to be a consistent performer at the NRL level and we’re very happy to be extending his contract,” Mr Ellison said.

“He works incredibly hard on his game and is equally dedicated to his football on the field as he is to his family off the field.

“We’re delighted to have Tassy remaining in South Sydney colours and we look forward to continuing our work with him now and into the future.”
